| Possible terrorist among us, police don't do anything... |
|
|
On one cold night in late October, I experienced something that I thought I would never encounter. The people who took an oath to protect and serve did absolutely nothing. Worse yet, they didn't even care. One of my close friends had just returned from his four year enlistment in the army. A few of us decided to go out for Halloween. We were all sitting in a club, when a guy walks through the door. He had dark skin and was wearing a turbine. He appeared to be of middle eastern descent. In a split second upon him entering the club, he stops in his tracks and takes off his overcoat revealing what appeared to be a bomb. He yells at the top of voice, "Hey everybody, its a costume..." as he reached for his "detonator" he yells, "BOOOOOM!"
My friend who had just gotten out of the army was obviously disturbed by this whole situation. He had completed a one year deployment in Iraq about 7 months prior to this event. I decided I had to do something. Figuring it was just a costume, I approached the management with my issue. They refused to do anything citing that it was Halloween and they were having a contest for the most realistic costume, and he would probably win. I felt this was atrocious. We decided to leave and never come back there again.
Upon leaving the club, there were people outside discussing it. We stopped to talk to them and express our disgust with the whole situation. They told us how they called the police and they were supposed to be coming to investigate. I decided that was a good idea and I called them too. The dispatcher on the phone asked me if I was aware it was Halloween. I told her that I was aware however, if I walked into a bank with a ski mask on, wearing all black, I am sure I would get arrested regardless if it was Halloween. She told me that was different. I asked if I walked into an airport wearing exactly the same thing that guy at the club was wearing, I am sure I would get arrested without even saying anything. Then she told me, "The police are on their way, and they will check it out."
The police arrived about two minutes later, pulled the guy with the “bomb” strapped to his chest, and talked to him for a few minutes. We were all appalled, they didn't even ask for his ID, they didn't have bomb sniffing dogs to check it out. They didn't swab it to check if it was a real bomb. They did nothing. I approached the officers and explained the same thing that I told the dispatcher. They said, "We appreciate where you are coming from, but the decision came from higher up then us. There is nothing we can do."
I couldn't believe what I had heard, there was only one thing left to do. I called the news channels. They didn't care, only one of the channels said if the police come back, call us back and we will come check it out.
Now, I am not a lawyer or a criminal justice expert, but isn't inducing panic against the law? If it is, shouldn't the police uphold the law regardless of the day?
After reflecting on this, what if this guy was just a test for next year? What if he was part of a plan? I guess we will never know, since the police didn't even gather his information. They barely even questioned him.
If we are at war with terrorism is this even fair to the brave men and women of the United States military who are fighting oversees, when at home the local police department doesn't care?
It's time for us to be heard.

It was a Halloween costume. Get over it. If he was a real terrorist you would all be dead.

I agree, there is distaste in what the guy did as a prank for a Halloween costume, but you have to be able to decide and understand reality from a hoax. I think it is as bad to get the police and newspaper involved in something that clearly was not what you made it to be. Bad taste yes... but there are many things done in America like this.

Newz, question for you... On Halloween or not, if somebody pointed a not apparent fake gun at a cop, would you expect the police to at least draw their guns? Whats the difference? IMO, weather it was a costume or not, I would have felt a lot better if the police at least investigated it. Not only that, but like the article say, what if it was supposed to appear that way? Some bigger grand scheme planned for the future.

It was pretty clear that this was just a costume... and I don't think the fact that he had "dark skin" and was wearing a "turbine [sic]" means anything. But I'll keep a lookout next Halloween, and make sure I call the police the moment I see anyone that's dressed as a hooker or mobster or anything like that. Because who knows? Anyone of them could come around next year and level my neighborhood.
