The Village of Richfield's planning and zoning commision is horible. First, they denied this indian temple to be built a clearly residential area. Then, they turn around and approve it, in a completely different, but still obvious, residental area. Is that logical at all? Now, their are numerous Richfield residents who are paying a lot of money for water and sewer, already. They have just received a letter from their utility company informing them of a 100% increase in their utilities. The residents want the village to annex the area, so they can get city water and sewer from the City of Cleveland. The village keeps on turning down the proposal, because the land owner wants to build on it. The village feels that the development will have too high of a density. Interesting, their are residents who are in trouble, and the village wants to go by the book. The mayor of Richfield, said that he would have a meeting with the utility company and the City of Cleveland in about 3 weeks. 3 weeks?!?!? Then he would give them and update a week later. It's good that the Village is going by the book, but they can't make exceptions, and they surely should move a little faster when residents are in trouble.
I think the Village of Richfield's Planning and Zoning Commision needs a reminder to what does planning and zoning mean? According to the US department of Justice planning is: "The process of anticipating future occurrences and problems, exploring their probable impact, and detailing policies, goals, objectives, and strategies to solve the problems. This often includes preparing options documents, considering alternatives, and issuing final plans." And zoning according to Merriman-Webster is: "1 a : to partition (as a city or town) by ordinance into sections reserved for different purposes (as residence or business) b : to designate the permitted use of (property) by placement in a municipal zone 2 : to restrict different kinds of (use) to different areas" The Village as whole maybe needs a refresher on compassion, constituents, maybe the golden rule?
